Submitted by kwil786 on Fri, 2010-07-16 19:06Gotta love the cover theme FF#1 retro via Bongo conundrumism.
Well the hero of every comic book geek, star trek trekkie, and star wars freak is at war with the big popper, G.N.K...the Graphic Novel Kid. Comic Book Guy attempts to out do the G.N.K. for the position of the new Lard Lad! So after realising that he has narrowly escaped death by dessert, Comic Book Guy decide that life must be lived for today...and invests all of his money in an auction for movie memorabilia.
Great stuff...especially Superguy's rocket...that happened to be loaded with fuel...Big Bang moment here...Is Comic Book Guy dead for real? What will happen to the Android's Dungeon? Will his left-handed fat man and lazy boy chair be delivered now? Is this the end of all that is holey??...stay tuned...as Stan the Man Lee make his appearance in issue #2!!!

Famous Monsters #251 - Was It Worth The Wait?
Submitted by kwil786 on Wed, 2010-07-14 23:55Hellllllllllllllll Yes!...But don't go berserk trying to collect all four covers...Unless of course you're a FM freak...then by all means go for it.
Personally though...They could have done without the Predator fanfare...I'm not really big on the Predator or Alien thing, but given that it's the next big thing in Sci-Fi films this year then I suppose FM, keeping in continuity with the 70's and 80's sci-fi content of its magazine did a very good job of presenting the next Predator film.
The Article " The Importance of Fear" by Robert Aragon is done with that classic twist of words and pictures that complement each other. Classic works by Renaissance artists such as Fuseli, Bosch, Bruegel, Claesx and the Romantic period of Goya and the expressionistic art of Edvard Munch go well with what Aragon has to say about the human nature of fear and the unknown...the hidden.
The William Stout interview is another classic piece of work giving insight to the man and his image magic.
This revival issue is itself going to be a classic piece of work, if for the only reason, to stand out among the many articles and interviews, is the one interview AND original never before published short story by Ray Bradbury.
Magazines such as Graham's magazine, who published Poe's stories and LIFE magazine when it published Hemingway's "The Old Man and The Sea", Weird Tales Magazine publishing Robert E. Howard's Conan stories, even Playboy magazine and its publication of the "Fly" by George Langelaan in it's June 1957 issue...this interview and short story will make this issue an instant collectors piece.
If you didn't take advantage of the offering...get yer arse out there and partake of the history.

trading cards and action figures
Submitted by joey112 on Sat, 2010-07-10 02:54does cosmic comics take trading cards of any sort in large amounts and action figures or figure. i have alot of yugioh, duel master, pokemon, magic the gathering, dragon ball z, and digimon cards. i do have quite a bit of rares and holos and i am looking for a place to just sell it all in one shot or something. all together i have around 3000 cards. i have a world of warcraft action figure and comic that goes with it. i also have a shonen jump issue that i never used and there is a rare yugioh card that is inside of it. the card is in near mint and most of the other cards are in near mint as well. i have those gold plated pokemon bars that you could get back awhile ago from burger king which are in pretty good condition and a yugioh dark magicion girl collectors tin in good condition no cracks or dents in it.
i also have the 2 yugioh god cards in near mint as well.
another thing i have some other trading card accessories that im looking to get rid of such as: trading card sleeves, deckboxes, 9 sleeves for the binder, a placement mat
if anyone could give me some ideas of where i could sell some of this stuff that would be awsome and very helpful too.
Robert E. Howards, Hawks of Outremer
Submitted by kwil786 on Tue, 2010-06-08 15:15What can one say about Robert E. Howard. Well for one he was one of the greats when it came to Pulp Fiction and sword and sorcery, another is that he was without a doubt a product of his time.
However regardless of the latter, Howard was indeed a master of fictional as well as a bit of the historical.
Hawks of the Outremer is a tale of Howard's fictional character Cormac Fitzgeoffrey, a half Norman half Gael warrior whose adventures are situated during the Third Crusade are purely historical based or should I say the two books from which this series, Hawks of The Outremer are adapted from are purely historically based (The Blood of Belshazzar & The Slave-Princess.
This newest presentation of a Howard character, done dramatically in the somewhat image of Conan the Barbarian, (Except in chain mail and metal) the most famous of Howard's characters and the most well known, is presented with interior art work by Damian Couceiro, with covers by Joe Jusko and Karl Richardson and adaption by Michael Alan Nelson.
Give the book a spin and see what you think...Hey it's a Howard classic.

Warlord
Submitted by kwil786 on Mon, 2010-06-07 13:49The Warlord series is a greatly understated, undersold and underestimated comic both in context as well as in theory. It reminds me of the way Hawkman has been treated initially within the DC Universe...in a way. Or for that matter, Firestorm as well. But then again you're dealing with a guy that does not possess any superpowers...much like Conan...but Conan is another story, it's longevity is due to other circumstances.
Mike Grell originally brought the character to life in DC comics 1st Issue Special #8 way back in 1975.1st Issue Special was much like DC's Showcase series.
The original series started in 1976 and ran for a total of 133 issues with six annuals. Sixteen years later, (1992) Warlord returned for a short time as a six issue limited series with Grell doing the art work once again.
Fourteen years later (2006)Warlord appears once again starting with the original concept and headed by the team of Jones & Sears. It only lasted for 10 issues, with issue #9 leaving a cliffhanging ending and issue #10 starting with a whole other story to it (WTH??!!)any way.....WELCOME to 2009, three years later and Warlord has once again graced the shelves of comic book shops. So far the newest issue will hit Cosmic this Wednesday. As those of you have seen - Those who are following the story - Travis Morgan, the original Warlord and long lived hero of pulp sword and sandal, sic. has died by the hands of Tinder...his son Joshua...thus Joshua becomes the new Warlord.
Well we're only three issues away (15) from the death of Travis I guess we'll see what is in store for the character now. It won't be the same as it was with the original so possibly this series may see an early kill off. Time will tell.
Check out the back issues to this really great series, you never know, you just might find a new hero, under-appreciated as he was and ready for the Pulp Hall of Fame.

Books to Watch For This Week
Submitted by kwil786 on Mon, 2010-06-07 04:08Aside from the relative norm of what most people collect and read (Avengers, Spiderman, Hulk, Iron Man, Batman, Superman, Flash, Green Lantern etc...etc...) There are also the alternate universe of things that will definitely become the talk of the future imperfect of comicdom history.
Doc Savage returns with issue #3 of the First Wave series which will define the Pulp Universe of DC comics in such a way as it has never been truly defined. Blood and Guts here bubba.
Kato #2 from Dynamite...I'm telling you they're really pushing these Green Hornet issues, and with the up and coming film due out in 2011. It's interesting to note that the Dynamite series "Green Hornet, written by Kevin Smith, was from his film script for a 2004 film. Kato #2 is another series re-defining the meaning of adventure in comics, especially of heroes without super powers. These "Pulp Heroes" who lack the super powers of the spandex crew bring the basics of the heroic icon into focus and make the adventure more earth bound...grounded in the underdog equation of balls to the wall, and damn the legations. Don't miss this second issue for anything.
Shield #2 When Nick Fury agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. first debuted in Strange Tales #135 back in 1965, no one would have thought that it would have progressed as far as it has. But back then, in the 1960's the American youth was hungry for the adventures of an intelligence agency with a surrealistic flavor capturing the themes of that time period. The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Secret Agent Man, James Bond these films set the stage for S.H.I.E.L.D. and the wave of comic book readers (Myself included...I still have my copy) that would catapult the Lee/Kirby team into a brand new, revisited if you will, era of adventure and espionage which would last for decades.
S.H.I.E.L.D. had grown since then and has become more complicated but intricate at the same time. This new view of the organization and it's possibilities is worth the adventure. Another series NOT TO BE MISSED !!!!
Dracula #1 I'm not 100% sure...but I think this is a a re-do of the 2005 series that was in B&W...except this is in color. Screw it!!! I'm buying it anyway!!! Roy Thomas & Dick Giordano on deck....ya damn skippy!!!

Stephen King's...N. Issues 1-4
Submitted by kwil786 on Sat, 2010-06-05 22:32"Can you catch a mental illness the same way you can catch a cold?"
Hmmmm...Good question.
In the Stephen King tradition another finely woven tale of madness and the macabre taking place in...where else....Maine of course, the Kings home state.
July 26th 1911
A. Ackerman is a troubled man, troubled more that the human mind can possibly imagine or comprehend. Something has driven him to acts of unspeakable violence and rage. He has burned down his home, killed his family and blown his head off with a shotgun blast in the mouth.
All that remained after the carnage were the stone pillars which had supported the houuse.
Some say there are sevens stone pillars...others say eight...but what's truly in the count? Does it matter?
There's a sign post up ahead...and the message is written in blood...'nuff said.
DO NOT MISS THESE ISSUES!!!!!
Beg ! Borrow! OR Collectively Borrow the buckaroonies ya need to get them before Mark runs out!!!!!!
Site Upgraded
Submitted by EricRosenfield on Thu, 2010-06-03 15:45Yesterday I upgraded Cosmic Comics to the latest version of Drupal. You shouldn't notice too much different except for one major thing: NO MORE SPAM. This should finally kill the spam problem that has plagued this website for years, courtesy of Mollom.
Enjoy.
